Driving from Sofia to St Vlas

Postby daveellen » Sun May 16, 2010 11:14 am

Hi All
Was all geared up for a cheeky week away, children free for the first time ever....., and sod's law our flights have been schedule changed from Sofia to Bourgas with Bulgaria Air (so be warned anyone else that has chosen to go for these flight options). It would have resulted in a 2 x day layover in Sofia to connect with the next flight to Bourgas. So, instead we've opted to brave the drive and hire a car from Sofia to Bourgas.
Of course, dependent on the Ash Cloud situation, and perhaps a plague of locust next............
So, has anyone braved the drive already and can offer us any advice? Anything appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi daveellen
I rode that way last summer on my bike, the only problem we had was the road signs are it Bulgarian / Russian ! so it becomes quite confusing.
We did take the wrong road and stopped at a garage and the guy wrote out a translation of the place names. If your hiring a car thay will prob assist you with directions.
Otherwise the roads are fine.

Its not a bad drive, you will arrive in Terminal 2 so the best way to get onto the motorway for Burgas is to follow the signs to Terminal 1 you will come to a set of traffic lights with terminal 1on your left turn right at these lights and you will be on dual carriageway keep on this road until you see a bridge going across the dual carriageway this is the motorway that you want turn left onto this road from here its quite simple, Follow signs for Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Burgas. As you come into Metro will be on your left turn left at this roundabout follow road to the next roundabout turn left and you are on the coast road taking you pass the airport. Journey will take about 4 and half hours to 5 hours, Have a good trip
